FeedForward was asked upgrade the instrumentation and controls on two large boilers which burn natural gas, blast furnace gas, and coke oven gas. The objective was to replace old antiquated equipment and improve reliability and efficiency with reduced usage of natural gas. FeedForward specified and procured new instrumentation and Emerson Delta V DCS. We designed and configured the hardware and software to accommodate rapid changes in the fuel supply without tripping the boiler. US Steel is now realizing significant cost savings through increased uptime and reduced usage of natural gas.
